Everyone should have access to safe, sustainable and affordable period products.

The rising cost of living continues to affect many households, making everyday essentials more difficult to afford. At the same time, many people are looking for ways to reduce waste and make more sustainable choices.

Luton Council is committed to supporting period dignity while helping residents access reusable period products that can save money over time, reduce waste and support wellbeing.

Through our partnership with Hey Girls, a social enterprise dedicated to period equality, we are offering free reusable period product kits to Luton residents who would like to try environmentally friendly alternatives to single-use products.

This initiative supports Luton’s 2040 Vision by promoting health, equity and environmental sustainability, while helping residents make informed choices that benefit both people and the planet.

Why choose reusable period products?

Many conventional period products are designed to be used once and then thrown away, generating significant amounts of waste over a lifetime.

Reusable alternatives such as period pants, reusable pads and menstrual cups can:
• help reduce spending on period products over the long term
• reduce reliance on single-use products
• help prevent unnecessary waste
• provide a comfortable and reliable way to manage periods
• increase choice, confidence and period dignity
• support more sustainable lifestyles

By switching to reusable products, residents can make a positive difference to both their household budgets and the environment.

If you live in Luton and would like to try reusable period products, you can request a free kit through this scheme.

To make access as convenient as possible, products can be ordered online and delivered directly to your home.

The scheme is available to Luton residents and Council staff who would like to explore reusable period products and learn more about the options available.

What’s Available?

Depending on availability, kits may contain a selection of reusable period products, including:
• Period pants
• Reusable pads
• Menstrual cups

Hey Girls also provides information and guidance to help you understand the different options available and choose the products that best suit your needs and lifestyle.

Free reusable period product kits are available while stocks last.
Products are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and availability may vary depending on demand.

• All Hey Girls packaging – down to the postage bags and tape – is biodegradable.
